I confess: I’m not into cupcakes. I just don’t have a sweet tooth, meaning in a cake, I usually relish the crumb and not the icing. With cupcakes, the cake part — compact and never tender — seems relegated to the role of icing support.
When I received a box of Petits Gâteaux cupcakes, one look and I expected more of the same. You have to admit, they’re very cute. That said, the first bite proved more convincing than usual. They’re good, even very good, from the camera-ready decoration to the tasty crumb. Made by the cupcake bakery of the same name in Plateau Mont-Royal, these mini “Petits Gâteaux” are sold in boxes of 6 or 12, respectively $10.99 or $19.99, exclusively at IGA.
Each box features six flavours in all:
• Carrot
• Raspberry & White Chocolate
• Red Velvet
• Classic Chocolate
• Vanilla
• Banana & Sugar Fudge
They are said to include only real maple syrup, homemade sugar fudge, pure butter and 70% cocoa, with no preservatives or artificial flavours added. You’ll find them only in IGA stores with a pastry counter.
